Saskia Vermeylen is a sociolegal scholar at the Lancaster Environment Centre, University of Lancaster, UK. Her main areas of research are (tangible and intangible) property rights, the commodification of nature, and “law from below.” Vermeylen is particularly interested in the fate of the subaltern when formal, institutionalized law and informal, local, customary law meet and are enacted in daily social practices.
