I graduated from high school in Ukiah Ca. in 1964. I attended Santa Rosa Jr. College for one year and then waived my student deferment and was drafted into the Army. From Aug. of 1966 to June of 1967 I was an MP in Saigon. After my two years in the Army I returned to SRJC and graduated in June 1968. I immediately took a job as a construction laborer/carpenter for G.L. Getchell in Monte Rio Ca. From Mr. Getchell I learned to build a house, from designing and drawing the plans, to surveying the lot, to nailing the shingles on the roof, and everything in between. In 1973 I sold my all redwood home in Monte Rio and moved my family to 80 acres of woods in southwest Arkansas and started to build the “organic homestead.” I worked construction, milked a cow and tended the garden till 1990 when my knees got so bad I couldn’t carpenter enough to make a living. The only sit down job I was qualified for was the undertaking of a study of the U.S. transportation industry and the U.S. highway infrastructure. Over the next eight years I drove a semi in forty-eight states and Ontario and British Columbia. In 1998 I made the wonderful discovery that there is the perfect place for someone that knows a little about a lot but not a lot about anything. It’s called Maintenance. I became the Maintenance Manager at The Leaves, a Christian Science Nursing Home, in Richardson Tx. In 2000 I took over management of Enoch’s Berry Farm at he request of my eighty three year old father. He had started the farm after retirement from school teaching in 1975. In Jan. 2009 I retired from The Leaves to care for him. He passed away in Aug. 2009. I currently milk goats and work on the farm and the GreenShade project. I've never had a TV. Lynn Margulis is my hero. solarincome.com - berryfarm.com
